# Getting started

## How does it work?

Inklay connects to the internet via Wi-Fi. At regular intervals, the display wakes up from its low-power sleep mode, loads new content from the cloud, and updates the screen.

### Create an account

Download the Inklay App from the App Store or Google Play Store and create an Inklay account.

### Connect Inklay

Connect your Inklay with your account. Remove the magnetic wooden cover and press the Pair button. Then follow the instructions in the app.

### Set up an Inklay App

With Inklay Apps, you can choose what appears on the screen. In the Inklay app, open your Inklay’s detail view and select an available button slot to add an app. Then, choose how often your Inklay should wake up and display new data. Longer intervals help extend battery life.

### Wall mounting

{% hint style="warning" %}
Please follow the assembly instructions carefully. Otherwise, the device may fall and become damaged.
{% endhint %}

Use the included wall-mounting bracket to attach Inklay to the wall.

Adhesive stripe:

* Please only use the adhesive on flat surfaces; otherwise, use screws.
* Remove the adhesive strip and press the adapter firmly against a flat wall.
* **Wait 15 minutes, then check the adhesion.**
* Attach Inklay.

Screws

* Alternatively, you can also use 2 × M4 screws. Please note that the screw head must not be more than 2.5 mm high.

### Inklay Stand (available separately)

The Inklay Stand allows the device to be placed on a table at a 30° tilt angle.

* Remove the wall-mounting adapter by unscrewing the four Torx screws with the Torx T5 screwdriver (included).
* Install the Inklay Stand and secure it with the four Torx screws using a Torx T5 screwdriver.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Charging Inklay

Inklay is a very energy-efficient device and rarely needs charging. When Inklay’s battery is low, a notification will appear on the screen. You can then easily charge Inklay via USB-C. You can continue using Inklay while it is charging. The easiest way to check the battery level is in the app. Inklay is typically fully charged in 6–7 hours.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Turning Inklay off

Remove the magnetic cover and press the Off button. This will turn Inklay off.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
